Will the new feature (Xbase++ 2.0 + Postgres), achieve the same performance level as native SQL? or is it still a record by record process but using a SQLesque command?
Xbase++ 2.0 gives you the best of both worlds.
If you require SQL performance, then use SQL commands.

If you demand ISAM compatablity, then this will work for you too.

I have been working this way for years with ADSDBE and have been happy with performance using both techniques.

I have almost no experience with PGDBE yet so I cannot vouch for it, but I can only think that the reason it has taken 5 years for Alaska to implement this DBE is to handle these issues. Steffen, in his letter, said that Alaska Software is technology driven. I have seen this to be true since I first met him 15 years ago. Many of us remember the days of Clipper and VO under the umbrella of a company that was market driven (CA). We got crappy software, along with a lot of hype, and paid a lot for it.
The eXpress train is coming - and it has more cars.

On performance: I asked this questions two years ago on a(nother) DevCon where a preview of "Artica" (codename for Xbase++ 2.0) was shown. Steffen replied, performance will decrease in scenarios with up to three workstations and will increase with four or more workstations - if there are no code changes in the app reflecting SQL, so ISAM is emulated.
Best regards,
Tom

So to get benefits of both worlds, if I'm seeing SKIP, append blank, delete, commit, and other xBase db function, I can just leave them alone? But if I see a complex batch computation (written in 'do while' inside 'do while's which can take hours to complete), I should look into re-writing them in optimized SQL queries/commands?

Best Regards,

Andy

Now they say that you can buy
Dear Sirs,

thank you for your message and your interest in Xbase++.

Regarding your question for prices I want to explain that Alaska Software currently is preparing a new pricing scheme. This means that prices will increase in the very near future. If you are interested in Xbase++ 2.0 I suggest to buy into Xbase++ as of today. Because this purchase will
… renew your Xbase++ (if you already have one)
… grant access to hot-fixes, updates and even new versions for the next 12 months
… grant access to our Technical Support Team for those 12 months
… grant access to our latest CTP (Community Technical Preview) of Xbase++ 2.0 which is about to be released this summer

In case of any outstanding question feel free to get back to me immediately.

Best regards,

Peter Bayer

.......

Dear Sirs,

thank you for your message!
I admit that I do not fully understand your question.
I tried to explain, when you buy into Xbase++ as of today, Xbase++ will be included for free.

You said that you already have Xbase++. So I look dup your files and found you:
your customer ID is E098865
you are registered since 2012

This entitles you to buy into Foundation Subscription:
605980 Foundation
Subscription
Version 1.90 Intl. Win32/64* EURO 995,--
in stock

The good news is, that this includes XbToolsIII. So you have all you need.
As soon when Xbase++ 2.0 has been released you’ll get this as well for free (if it is next 12 months; but this is definitely scheduled).

And no problem to live in Russia. Do not hesitate to order directly from our shop: https://www.alaska-software.com/order/order-intro.shtm
That is the always the quickest.
