Xbase++ 2.0 gives you the best of both worlds. Will the new feature (Xbase++ 2.0 + Postgres), achieve the same performance level as native SQL? or is it still a record by record process but using a SQLesque command?
If you require SQL performance, then use SQL commands.
If you demand ISAM compatablity, then this will work for you too.
I have been working this way for years with ADSDBE and have been happy with performance using both techniques.
I have almost no experience with PGDBE yet so I cannot vouch for it, but I can only think that the reason it has taken 5 years for Alaska to implement this DBE is to handle these issues. Steffen, in his letter, said that Alaska Software is technology driven. I have seen this to be true since I first met him 15 years ago. Many of us remember the days of Clipper and VO under the umbrella of a company that was market driven (CA). We got crappy software, along with a lot of hype, and paid a lot for it.
