you have planned to have eXpress for xHarbour

I thought about this many times over the years, but it would not be worth the effort.

The main reason is because xHarbour users don't want to pay for software.
They would expect it to be free.
I cannot spend a year of my time writing software to give away for free.

and which GUI Constribution ?

you can use Cl*pper Code with harbour but if you want to use Xbase++ GUI you must have Controls with about same Syntax.
i use GTWVG from Bedi Pritpal. Bedi was Xbase++ User before so he use his old Code Syntax within his Constribution

neverless i see no chance to used it within Express++ while Event handling is total different.

Hello,
I think the xHarbour users have no idea what they are missing. FiveWin is also not free, but has many users. eXpress++ for xHarbour would be a huge benfit, bcause then we could also develop for other operating systems and xHarbour will not vanish from the market for many years. And nobody would change from FiveWin to another system, would be only interesting for new xHarbour users or xBase++ users. I fully understand Roger, makes no sense without money.

Rudolf

I understand that too, but I think for the users who are using xBase + eXpress that want to have another option in case xBase disappears because of the high cost of buying an annual license, many people have left it and are looking for other options.

If Roger has eXpress for xHarbour I would be one of the first to buy and use it.

In order to make this happen, I would need to rewrite all my DC_Xbp* classes for xHarbour by inheriting from xHarbour classes. How much do you know about their classes and their event handler? Also, eXpress++ depends on the power of the pre-processor. Is it as good as the Xbase++ pre-processor?

I think, this leads into a huge waste of time.

Code: Select all

I think, this leads into a huge waste of time.

Hello xHarbour users,

This conversation strikes a chord with me.
As a person who works closely with the boys at Alaska as well as Roger of express++, I admit I know nothing of xHarbour other than that it exists.

What does xHarbour have that is missing from XBase++ or express++?
What can you do with xHarbour that you can't do with the other packages?
Why would it be advantageous for us to switch to or add it to our arsenal of programming tools?

Curious,

Bobby
